If it’s both terrifying and amazing, then you should definitely pursue it.

How it started…

Rivertowns SUP & Yoga was formed in 2018 by Tarrytown resident Tara Scheller. Growing up, Tara spent most of her summers in Delaware on Indian River where she developed a love for the water. This is where she first had the opportunity to try stand up paddle boarding and SUP yoga. From the first moment she stepped on a paddle board she felt transformed. All of the negative statements, “I can’t” and “who am I to do something like this?” disappeared. Inspired by the experience, she wanted to show others they could feel the same way!

Paddle boarding and SUP yoga provide an opportunity for self-discovery, self-awareness, and a reminder to face challenges with an open mind, with gratitude, and with playfulness. This is what Rivertowns SUP & Yoga is all about... taking chances, feeling scared but doing it anyway, challenging yourself to learn & grow no matter what obstacles you think stand in your way, being curious & having fun, developing strength & practicing mindfulness in the elements of nature. Rivertowns SUP & Yoga is about creating awareness through opportunity, building support & connection through community: sharing, learning, and growing together through gratitude, kindness, compassion, and the experience of BLUE MIND.

About Tara…

Tara is a registered Yoga Instructor (RYT 500, E-RYT 200, YACEP), certified SUP Yoga Instructor, and a PaddleFit Pro Coach. She is trained in open water safety and rescue, has completed Lifeguard certification, and is First Aid/CPR/AED certified with the American Red Cross. As a former dancer, dance educator, and registered Dance/Movement Therapist, Tara has spent her entire career using movement to connect to others in a therapeutic way. She uses yoga to develop strength and flexibility in the body while practicing mindfulness and positive thinking for a healthy body, mind, and spirit. Her classes can range from high intenstity power flow vinyasa to gentle chair yoga and meditation practices. Tara approaches each class as an opportunity for growth and believes her students are her best teachers. She enjoys the challenge of adapting every experience to meet the needs of those around her and strives to provide an environment that feels supportive, inviting, and playful. Bringing this practice to the water adds new challenges and a dose of nature therapy, making for an experience that invigorates, rejuvenates, and inspires!

Beyond the Business…

When not focusing on teaching or business development, Tara is actively involved with her family of 3 boys, husband, and 4-legged family (3 Mini-Australian Shepherds and a Maine Coon cat named Kenobi). She is a huge Star Wars fan (you may notice the Rebel tattoo), loves the movie the Goonies, and loves sharing a beer with her husband.
